Fatigue Causes and Symptoms

We all find ourselves needing a good night’s sleep now and then, but chronic fatigue is much more than that. There are many reasons why someone might feel fatigued, but the result is the same: exhaustion, body aches, impaired cognition, and a lower quality of life. Some of the causes of fatigue include:

  • Illness, such as cold or flu
  • A mental health condition, such as depression
  • Heavy alcohol or substance use
  • Unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as poor diet or lack of exercise
  • Insomnia, sleep apnea, or other sleep-related issues
  • Jet lag
  • Chronic pain

There are also many chronic medical conditions where fatigue is a side effect or symptom. These include:

  • Cancer
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Heart disease
  • Thyroid disease
  • Anemia
  • Migraines
  • COPD

Finally, there is chronic fatigue syndrome. Also called myalgic encephalomyelitis, this condition results in fatigue that lasts six months or more and can’t be relieved by getting more sleep.

The effects of fatigue can be detrimental to a person’s well-being. Some symptoms include:

  • Headaches
  • Fuzzy concentration
  • Mood swings
  • Lethargy
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Digestive issues, such as bloating or stomach pain

This is why many people seek IV therapy for fatigue to find symptom relief.

The Benefit of Using IV Therapy for Fatigue

IVs may make a huge difference in the quality of your life if you’re struggling with fatigue. IV therapy benefits those with chronic fatigue syndrome, illness, and other conditions as it rehydrates the body with premium electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals. These ingredients provide an energy boost and symptom relief. Plus, IV treatment works quickly because the fluids are infused into the bloodstream for maximum effect.

People often rely on vitamin C IV therapy for chronic fatigue because it’s an energizing antioxidant. B vitamins, such as B12, help the body convert food into fuel for energy and assist with red blood cell production.

You can customize an IV with those vitamins or use a Myers’ Cocktail. This IV treatment is renowned for its power to recharge and restore energy. It contains B Complex, B12, and C vitamins, as well as:

  • Zinc: a nutrient that helps with many vital processes, including converting food into energy
  • Glutathione: an antioxidant that may help with chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Magnesium: which targets muscle fatigue

The Myers’ Cocktail may be used as a form of IV therapy for adrenal fatigue, too.

How to Prepare for an IV Therapy Session

Before your IV therapy session, make sure to eat a light meal that includes protein. There are some minerals, vitamins, and medications included in IV packages that should not be taken on an empty stomach. Eating also keeps your blood sugar levels up during IV therapy.

Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine beforehand. Try to drink a few glasses of water to help yourself rehydrate. Even though your IV drip will rehydrate you, the process works better if you are rehydrated beforehand. Rehydration makes it easier for the nurse to find the veins in your arms for needle insertion.

Try not to take antihistamines or similar decongestant drugs prior to receiving IV therapy. While they may relieve your stuffy nose or allergies, these medications have a constricting effect on blood vessels. That can make the IV therapy process more challenging.

Wear comfortable clothes. For IV purposes, wear a short-sleeved shirt or a shirt with sleeves that roll up easily.

Prior to the start of your IV therapy session, take time to relax and breathe. By releasing any nervous tension, you are better prepared to benefit from your IV treatment. Choose soothing music to listen to or a good book to read while receiving your IV therapy.

What to Expect During an IV Therapy Session

Before your IV therapy session, a provider (either a nurse or paramedic depending on the state you’re in) from Mobile IV Nurses will go over the entire procedure, which lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes, with you and answer any questions. This pre-session consultation includes taking your medical history, which medications you take currently, and a symptom discussion. It may help to write down all of the medications you take, whether prescription or over-the-counter.

The provider checks your IV package thoroughly to ensure it is the right one for your needs and has a current expiration date. Carefully following all safety and hygienic procedures, the provider inserts a needle into a vein. The needle is immediately removed and the only thing that is left to provide access for the fluids to infuse is a plastic tube that remains in place. With an IV professional such as those at Mobile IV Nurses, the insertion should prove painless. Once the IV drip starts, you can watch TV, read, or listen to music during the session. If necessary, you can use the bathroom during this time.

IV Therapy for Athletes and Fitness Enthusiasts

Is lack of energy affecting your athletic performance? IV therapy for fatigue can improve both athletic performance and recovery. After a tough workout or training session, your body burns protein, fat, and carbohydrates rapidly. The result is fatigue, as well as dehydration and soreness post-workout or training.

IV therapy for athletes is designed to rehydrate your body while replacing B vitamins lost during intense exercise. An IV therapy package for athletes and fitness enthusiasts also includes zinc and magnesium, minerals needed for energy processing. Amino acids, including L-glutamine and L-arginine, help growth hormone production. Not only do these amino acids help you to recover more quickly, but they also increase lean body mass. They serve as the building blocks for proteins in the body.

If you want a much faster recovery from an intense workout, IV therapy is the route to take. In addition to feeling better faster, as an athlete, you benefit from less inflammation, fewer muscle aches or overall soreness, and a reduction in oxidative stress.

IV Therapy for Fatigue Frequently Asked Questions

1Is IV therapy for fatigue safe?

Yes! IV therapy is a safe, effective, and fast way to replenish your body and give you an energy boost. The ingredients in a rehydration treatment (like a Myers’ Cocktail) are natural vitamins and minerals that your body needs — the IV is simply helping you get them faster. This results in higher nutrient levels and a healthier, more energized body.

Additionally, getting an IV infusion for fatigue with Mobile IV Nurses is always safe. We work with experienced, skilled registered nurses and paramedics to ensure the utmost safety and professionalism. When you have an IV treatment with us, you can trust that we’ll take excellent care of you.

2What IV ingredients are best for fatigue?

We recommend the Myers’ Cocktail for patients with fatigue because it is an all-around health benefit. But if you want to add some more ingredients to your IV therapy for fatigue, there are a few nutrients that can give you extra energy.

Vitamin B12 is a popular choice among people who want to shake off fatigue and feel energized again. This vitamin helps convert fats and protein into energy, so it can make your body draw energy from the food you eat more effectively. Vitamin C also helps with energy production through a process called beta-oxidation, which breaks down fatty acids.

You can also add magnesium or NAD+ to your IV for extra energy. Magnesium is necessary for over 300 processes in the body (including energy production), and NAD+ can boost your energy by supporting overall cellular function. You can add any of these ingredients to your IV therapy for fatigue to feel more energized than ever.

3How fast will my IV work, and how long will the benefits last?

Our patients have reported feeling more energy within 30 minutes of receiving their IV therapy for chronic fatigue. Additionally, a typical IV treatment results in higher nutrient levels for about two weeks, which can help you feel your best long after your treatment is over.

However, it’s important to remember that your results will vary based on your specific condition. If you are feeling fatigue symptoms soon after receiveing your IV therapy, you can always call us again to get another IV and additional benefits.

4How often can I do IV therapy for chronic fatigue?

As we previously mentioned, the results of IV therapy for fatigue typically last about two weeks. Therefore, getting an IV once or twice a month should be sufficient to keep you healthy, hydrated, and energized all year long.

However, if you do experience fatigue between those two-week sessions — for example, if you catch a cold or have jetlag after travel — it is safe to get another IV. Just call Mobile IV Nurses, and we’ll help get you back on your feet.

Hands down- the best way to get back to 100% and reset. Daniel is who did/does my IV and he’s incredible. He made me comfortable and explained everything he was doing and how I will benefit from it. I had covid, which depleted me. After the treatment, I felt better than even before getting sick. I have and will continue to tell anyone with a pulse that they need to do this. My job is quite demanding, so I look forward to my next IV to be revitalize again. Easily the best part of my self care routine.

Tiffany is an outstanding nurse she has literally became apart of our family and in times of crisis she was always very sweet, beyond exceptional and replies very fast. I’ve been in the ER many times and the nurses there would always struggle with finding a vein to place the iv in which resulted in pain and uncomfort, but Tiffany would never have issues finding a vein and the poking feels almost nonexistent when she does it! It really warms my heart to know that there are still sweet nurses like Tiffany out there!
