IV Therapy Treatment for Altitude Sickness

It’s hard to enjoy outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, and more if you have altitude sickness. Mobile IV Nurses specializes in fast and convenient IV therapy for many issues, including high altitude sickness treatment, so you can get back out there and tackle the slopes.

Effective Altitude Sickness Treatment

IV therapy works well for easing symptoms of altitude sickness. Do electrolytes help with altitude sickness?Absolutely, and each drip IV contains fluids packed with vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes the body needs to feel better. Plus, IV therapy infuses these powerful fluids right into the bloodstream, so they get to work faster than oral medications that need to pass through the digestive system before activating.

Altitude sickness can be treated with IV fluids from Mobile IV Nurses. We deliver high-quality IV therapy services to your home, hotel room, or other convenient location so you can rest and relax during treatment.

Altitude Sickness Symptoms

When you’re on a mountain such as Humphreys Peak, Fremont Peak, or Mount Baldy, oxygen and air pressure levels are lower than they are when you’re closer to sea level. That change can result in altitude sickness. You may feel:

  • Headaches
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • A dizzy or lightheaded sensation
  • Problems sleeping
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lack of appetite
  • Rising heart rate

Your age, weight, and blood pressure can affect the likelihood of developing altitude sickness. Symptoms usually appear soon after you’ve moved from a low to high altitude. The higher up you go, the more likely altitude sickness may occur. And these symptoms can stick around--mild altitude sickness can last up to 36 hours. Altitude sickness may also worsen, causing extreme fatigue and mental confusion, as well as issues with the lungs, heart, or nervous system requiring medical attention. IV fluids for mild altitude sickness offer quick symptom relief.

Of course, you don’t have to go skiing or mountain climbing to experience altitude sickness. Sometimes, just visiting a city with a higher elevation than your body is accustomed to will result in altitude sickness symptoms. In such cases, you may not immediately realize the nature of your ailment. Mild altitude sickness symptoms should respond to mobile IV therapy.

Avoid getting to the point where you need to go to the hospital by getting IV treatments for altitude sickness as soon as possible.

Benefits of IV Therapy for Altitude Sickness

The alternatives to IV therapy for altitude sickness are pretty basic. These altitude sickness treatments state that you should stop and rest and avoid climbing any higher. Don’t resume climbing for another 24 to 48 hours after recovery.

Take ibuprofen or a similar non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) if you have a headache. Drink plenty of water. If feeling nauseous, take anti-nausea medication.

That’s all good information and will help someone dealing with altitude sickness. However, drinking lots of water and taking oral medication means the fluids and drugs must pass through your gastrointestinal system. That takes time. If you want to rehydrate and feel better as fast as possible, IV therapy sends fluids and medication directly into your bloodstream. In fact, you may find relief in as little as 30 minutes. If you want, you can start climbing again once you’ve passed the recommended 24 to 48 hours after recovery.

Recommended IV for Altitude Sickness

A Myers’ Cocktail with anti-nausea medication is an ideal liquid IV for altitude sickness. The Myers’ Cocktail contains vitamins and minerals, such as B Complex vitamins, vitamin B12, vitamin C, magnesium, zinc and the antioxidant glutathione, which are essential for improving energy levels and fighting fatigue. It’s a powerful combination designed to get you back on your feet fast.

At Mobile IV Nurses, you have the option to add supplements and medications to your IVs (for an additional fee). We suggest enhancing your Myers’ Cocktail IV with an anti-nausea medication, such as Zofran, which helps with symptom relief so you can get acclimated to the higher altitude. Our staff of medical professionals can help you tailor your IV therapy to your specific needs. This includes using NSAIDs such as Toradol, which is an effective treatment for altitude sickness. Toradol can be added to any IV to further reduce any symptoms you are experiencing from the altitude.

Frequently Asked Questions: IV for Altitude Sickness

1What is IV therapy?
Intravenous, or IV therapy, provides fluids via a drip IV infusion. It is the fastest way to get fluids into the body. The IV goes directly into the bloodstream. Prior to starting the IV, the medical professional will take your medical history, discuss your current symptoms, and perform a brief exam. After seating you in a comfortable position, the IV is inserted into a sanitized section of your arm. The needle is inserted gently into your skin, where it connects with a vein. The needle is used to insert the catheter into the vein and the needle is removed, which is then hooked into the drip line for your IV treatment.
2How long does Mobile IV therapy for altitude sickness take?
Expect your mobile IV therapy for altitude sickness to take between 45-60 minutes. There are several factors that determine the length of infusion including, the particular IV treatment selection, the speed in which your body can tolerate the infusion, and if there are any changes that need to be made during the infusion, such as catheter adjustment.
3Do you accept insurance?
Mobile IV Nurses does not accept insurance at this time. Patients may pay via check, debit or credit cards, HSA and FSA.
4Do you accept tips for IV therapy?

My daughters and I felt so comfortable in Karina’s care and she is a wealth of information. She answered all of our questions and helped us decide what was right for us. We felt a boost of energy ans well as emotional regulation after the IV. I also noticed other symptoms improving like vision and breathing. Hands down- the best way to get back to 100% and reset. Daniel is who did/does my IV and he’s incredible. He made me comfortable and explained everything he was doing and how I will benefit from it. I had covid, which depleted me. After the treatment, I felt better than even before getting sick. I have and will continue to tell anyone with a pulse that they need to do this. My job is quite demanding, so I look forward to my next IV to be revitalize again. Easily the best part of my self care routine.

Tiffany is an outstanding nurse she has literally became apart of our family and in times of crisis she was always very sweet, beyond exceptional and replies very fast. I’ve been in the ER many times and the nurses there would always struggle with finding a vein to place the iv in which resulted in pain and uncomfort, but Tiffany would never have issues finding a vein and the poking feels almost nonexistent when she does it! It really warms my heart to know that there are still sweet nurses like Tiffany out there!
