The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we cope with illness all around the world. Now, a sniffle is no longer “no big deal.” In fact, it’s just the opposite as sniffles, sore throat, and coughing could be signs of the highly contagious and dangerous condition: COVID-19.

Luckily, we have developed many tools that can help us fight the virus over the past three years of this pandemic. We have vaccines that reduce the risk of severe illness and hospitalization. We have mountains of data from all around the world that help inform guidelines on everything from masking to quarantining. And we have rapid testing that can give us the one thing we all desperately want: information about our health.

At Mobile IV Nurses, we want you to feel calm and at ease during this trying time. That’s why we’re happy to offer mobile testing services. Our teams will come to your home or workplace to administer a COVID test, giving you the information you need to safely continue your day.

The Test We Offer

Mobile IV Nurses offers our customers rapid antigen testing as part of our home testing services. This test detects proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the mucus membranes of your nose and throat. The test is a popular choice because it is highly sensitive for positive results — and because it yields results in 10-15 minutes.

Rapid antigen tests are most effective during the early stages of infection, so it’s best to schedule rapid testing for your household or office when you first notice symptoms or are exposed to COVID-19.

It is also important to note that while rapid tests are very sensitive, false-negative results are possible. If you receive a negative (-) result on your COVID test, you still need to take precautions by avoiding sick people, washing your hands, and wearing a mask in public indoor spaces.

How Each Test Works

When you get free COVID testing from Mobile IV Nurses, we will send a team of experienced registered nurses and paramedics to your home or office. Our team will have the appropriate PPE and sanitizing materials to ensure your safety, and we will conduct testing outdoors if the weather permits.

To administer your rapid test, we will insert a sterile swab into your nostril and rotate it three to four times. Then we place the swab into an extraction buffer tube, which pulls the sample from the swab tip. Finally, we will place three drops of the extracted sample on a test strip, which will tell us if the sample contains COVID-19 proteins. Your results should be ready in 10-15 minutes.

Once you have your test result, our nurses will help you determine what to do next. We are closely following updates from the CDC, so we can tell you if you should quarantine and how long you should isolate. We can even help you set up at-home care with IV treatments for pain management or other symptoms.

How Do I Qualify for Free Testing?

We know that this pandemic has had devastating financial impacts on many families and businesses. And at Mobile IV Nurses, we believe that good health is something everyone deserves regardless of their budget. We pride ourselves on offering affordable options to all our patients, and rapid testing is no exception.

Therefore, we are offering free mobile COVID testing to anyone who has been exposed to COVID-19 or is showing symptoms.

Tips on Protecting Yourself and Others from COVID-19

There is promising evidence to suggest that COVID-19’s pandemic phase could end in 2022. However, it is still critical that you take precautions to avoid getting sick and passing the illness to others.

While CDC guidelines regularly change and evolve, there are some tips you can follow to keep yourself, co-workers, and loved ones healthy throughout the year. These tips include:

  • Get vaccinated. Research shows that vaccines are safe and effective against severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. Vaccines are currently free and available for all Americans ages 5 and older, so get your vaccine and booster shot as soon as possible.
  • Wear a mask when in public indoor spaces like grocery stores or public transportation. The CDC recommends that anyone over the age of two wear a mask, regardless of their vaccination status. The mask should cover your nose and mouth. N95 and KN95 masks offer the best protection against the dominant COVID-19 variant, omicron.
  • Avoid poorly ventilated spaces and crowded places, especially if you’re not up-to-date on your vaccines.
  • Wash your hands often, or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol when hand-washing isn’t possible.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, or cough or sneeze into your elbow when a tissue isn’t available.
  • Monitor your health daily and watch for symptoms of COVID-19: fever or chills, dry cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, body aches, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, diarrhea, and new loss of taste or smell. If you develop these symptoms, contact your doctor or Mobile IV Nurses for rapid testing as soon as possible.
